1. Nahargarh fort, Jaipur
The majestic Nahargarh fort was built by Sawai Raja Maan Singh along with Amer fort and Jaigarh fort. The walls of the fort stand sky high overlooking the pink city – Jaipur at the edge of Aravali hills. The story behind this place being spooky is associated with the King’s death. The king was very much passionate about this particular fort which he built for his queens. And even after his death his ghost looks over the place and is believed to be protecting the fort. One of the creepiest instances recorded so far is the mysterious death of the owner of restoration organization who was working on the renovation of an old building in the fort.
2. Rana Kumbha Palace, Chittorgarh
Rana Kumbha palace in Chittorgarh is considered to be one of the scariest places in Rajasthan. There is a story behind its spooky chambers and screams which have been experienced by the visitors and local people. According to the legend, when the sultan of Delhi, Alauddin Khilji attacked the palace, Maharani Padmini performed self-immolation along with 700 other female. Even years after this incident took place there have been many instances when people heard the screams of women asking for help to save their empire.
3. Bhangarh Fort, Alwar
Bhangarh Fort located on the slope of a hill in Alwar district of Rajasthan. The fort is also listed as one of the most haunted places in India. The fort was built by King Madho Singh in the 17th century and named after his grandfather, Bhan Singh. As the fort is reported to be haunted, no one is allowed to stay in the monument at night. The story behind the spookiness of the fort claims that a tantric who used to do black magic at the palace wanted to marry the queen – Rani Ratnawati. After learning about his evil intentions, Rani got the tantric killed.
People of Bhangarh believe that paranormal activities take place inside the fort’s premises at night. Some of the local people and visitors have also experienced the same. It has been recorded that people who disbelieved the fact and tried to stay inside the fort between sunset and sunrise were found dead.
4. Kuldhara Village, Jaisalmer
Kuldhara Village also known as ‘village of ghosts’ is located in Jaisalmer district of Rajasthan. It is said that the village was abandoned by Paliwal Brahmins because of some unknown reason, In the 19th century. Before leaving they cursed the place that no one would be able to settle there after them.
The village is still left deserted because of paranormal activities taking place during the night. Unknown scary voices can be clearly heard if someone is encountering the place in the night time, the reason why it has been listed among haunted places in India.
5. Brijraj Bhavan Palace, Kota
Kota, a city on the banks of Chambal river is now known to be a famous hub of coaching centers and students. But to your surprise, this place is also famous for creepy ghost stories. One such spooky story is about Brijraj Bhawan Palace which now has been converted into a luxury hotel. This palace was once home to Major Burton and his family who was killed in the mutiny of 1857. It is believed that ghost of Major Burton still dwells in the palace. The queen, who conquered the palace after Major’s death had also experienced the presence of major’s ghost in the palace.
6. Mehandipur Balaji, Dausa
Mehandipur Balaji temple is a temple of Lord Hanuman, situated in Dausa district of Rajasthan. This place is famous for exorcism. There’s no particular story behind the place being scary. But, the exorcism which is practiced in the temple premises is enough to send goosebumps throughout your body. The holy place is believed to have a power that rehabilitates people possessed by evil spirits.
7. Ajmer-Udaipur highway near Dudu village, NH-79
One of the spookiest and most haunted road one can travel in Rajasthan. This highway near Dudu village is also famous as the road that asks for blood. The village located close by has numerous scary stories associated to NH-79. The story behind the place being haunted is the death of a woman and her 5 days old baby girl. The woman was against the marriage of her newborn to a three years old baby boy. So she took her and ran away asking for help from passersby but accidentally hit by a tourist vehicle and was killed. The village people believe that spirit of that woman and her baby still roam around on NH-79 at night asking and screaming for help.
